Yesterday I decided to install Windows 7. I was going to go the Vista route so I didn’t have to re-install programs, but then realised that I didn’t want to lose the will to live.
It went pretty smoothly. Migrating files from old set up to new one took many hours, and still isn’t complete because the system tells me it doesn’t have enough disk space (despite having twice as much free as it is trying to copy).
My wireless dongle gave me some grief – but I knew it would. I have managed to find some third party drivers for it which seem to be OK, although it has taken half a day for the connection to become reliable (it was fine under XP and Ubuntu).
Funniest things were the wireless troubleshooter telling me to download new drivers (erm, yeah) and to plug in an ethernet cable to fix my wireless connection.
Now it is the long slow slog of installing software. And finding all those serial numbers… I’ll get there, one day!
